POSITION PURPOSE: We are looking for a design engineer with 3D modeling and 2D drafting skills to work in our Arcata, CA work in our manufacturing plant environment .
The right candidate will have a strong, focused personality, be hard working and a team player.
The position requires a highly organized, confident individual with an excellent knowledge of industrial or mechanical design, workshop practices, and materials, who can design to high accuracy.
You will use various CAD software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, and Multi Surf (Solidworks is available but used less for our type of product) to design made-for-production cut geometry and assembly drawings.
You will develop lofted surface models and flattened or expanded 2D patterns for CNC cutting and layout drawings, bill of materials and other documents required to efficiently and accurately produce a broad spectrum of inflated products.
We are a fast-paced, fast-growing global manufacturer of marine inflatable collar systems, tubes, and sponsons as well as rigid inflatable boats.
It's a dynamic place with tons of opportunity – This role allows you to be a project lead, handling the entire technical process from pre-production meetings to post-production reviews, working with the craft builders on the shop floor in-between.

If you have a degree and some experience in a manufacturing environment, we can train you.

QUALIFICATION: Required Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Design, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar field plus (1) year of drafting/CAD experience (preferably in product manufacturing) Associates Degree in Drafting Design or similar field related plus (3) years of drafting/CAD experience preferably in product manufacturing is preferred Proficient with Rhino and AutoCAD, utilizing assembly configurations, part and assembly modeling techniques, and part and drawing templates.
Experience with Solidworks and Multi-Surf a plus.
Willingness to learn design tools.
Ability to plan and organize the complete drawing package for a design project Knowledge of various surface materials, flat patterns, 3D geometry, and plate extrusion to CNC Ability to utilize current techniques and maintain a working knowledge of governing industry practices and defense standards and specifications.
Must possess an understanding of textile material properties and their application or be willing to learn Ability to plan and manage tasks of multiple challenging projects Possess strong work ethics; reliable and dependable Excellent observation skills with superior attention to detail and a demand for accuracy in a deadline driven environment Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills Understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel) Desired Experience in marine, inflatable, or soft-goods (clothing, backpacks, tents & awnings) manufacturing is a strong plus Prior experience with CNC machining and cutting technologies Understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing methods used by or in the production of membrane, plastic, or sheet metal production Experience with ERP systems and data entry is a plus.
