Hello! I rescue domestic and feral pigeons (aka rock doves).
Right now my aviary is almost full, so I need to find some of my pigeons new homes.
Pigeons make great pets.
They are quiet (though males will coo), chill, non-destructive, clean, have relatively simple care needs compared to other popular pet birds, and it doesn’t hurt if they peck you.
They are curious and extremely intelligent, but don’t need constant mental stimulation like a parrot.
If tamed, they can be very affectionate and even cuddly, and if they don’t want to be cuddled they’ll still eat out of your hand, and hang out with and perch on you.
However, keep in mind that they are still birds, and need to fly, can’t be potty trained, and most don’t like being held.
I’m looking for people who are either experienced in pet bird care or are newbies who are willing to learn and do research on PET pigeon care.
These pigeons can live inside (with daily out of cage time) or outside in a closed, predator-proof aviary.
Pigeons’ wings should not be clipped.
Pet pigeons do need to be taken to an avian veterinarian if they get sick.
I will be vetting potential adopters and encouraging further research if necessary.
If you are interested but not completely sure yet, I am happy to discuss basic pigeon care with you.
Also, any pigeon adopted from me must be fostered by the potential adopter first, so you can see if pigeons are the right fit for your household before committing to anything.
Since these are rescued animals, I will not adopt to anyone who is going to breed them.
The adoption fee is $15 for a single pigeon or $20 for a pair.
Please email or text (no calls)
I am also on instagram (@pigeons_of_the_pier), which you can check out if you want to see some of the daily life of caring for these pigeons.
