Wanted small breed mutt puppy :)

We've been looking for the right puppy to join our family for the last year.
We know this will be a 15+ year commitment so we're waiting until the most perfect puppy finds us.
We've been watching all local and non local shelters, rescues, Craigslist etc but we haven't found the one yet but that's OK we're in no hurry.
I'm not willing to spend a grand on a puppy since we'll still have to pay to get her spayed (where I live it's easily $500.
00+), vaccinated and microchipped.
So if you're asking a ridiculous amount please don't waste your time.
:) We want to find a dog that isn't going to be too small or too big, so maybe between 10-25 pounds as an adult? This puppy is going to be for my daughter who's turning 13 in May and she really wants a girl since she's obsessed with pink ;) we don't want full blooded Chihuahua, Pomeranian, doxie, Jack Russell or any flat face dog.
Mixed breed preferred.

We live in Humboldt County but willing to travel.
