Great Redwood Trail?

Does anyone else wonder if another paved road/trail from SF to Humboldt Bay is really what we need? Yes, riding a bike on the 101 is dangerous.
Yes, campgrounds and coffee shops along the trail will benefit.
But more human traffic rarely enhances the natural environment.
More plastic pollution, wildfire danger, and just plain intentional destruction, as in graffiti will certainly increase.
Why? For a few dollars more.
Gone in a day but the damage lasts for generations.
